Workshop on Promoting Fisheries activities at Khulna

KhulnaNews24.com:: Cereal Systems Initiative for South Asia in Bangladesh (CSISA-BD) project funded by USAID has been implementing in southern Bangladesh. Today 25 June, 2012 WorldFish Center organized a day long workshop on “Promoting CSISA-BD activities (Fisheries Sector) , Achievements and Experiences to Stakeholders” at CSS AVA Center, Khulna.

Md. Rakib Uddin, Deputy Director, Department of Fisheries chaired the workshop. Mr Abdur Rashed, DD Quality Control, DoF were as special guest. District Fishery Officers/ Upazila Fishery Officers/  Scientists/ Experts/ Private practitioners from DoF, BFRI, Khulna University, Shrimp Processing plants, Feed Companies, Dealers, Depots, Developments projects, NGOs, farmers,  and journalists participated in the workshop.      

CSISA-BD project has been implementing aiming at “increase income, food security, and livelihoods of the farm families in impoverished and agriculturally dependent regions of Bangladesh.” Mr. Sattyanarayan Roy, Hub Manager gave details presentation on project activities and progress. He said that CSISA has been providing field based skill training, establishing farmer participatory demonstration farms and organizing field days for disseminating improved technologies in 13 Upazilas of Khulna, Satkhira and Bagerhat districts. BRAC, TMSS, Renaissance & Uttaran involved as partner organization to implement this project in Khulna region.    

Mr. Rakib Uddin, Deputy Director of Department of Fisheries (DoF) thanked USAID in his speech for supporting this type of development project, and expressed to extend his full support to CSISA project. Mr Abdur Rashed, Deputy Director, Quality Control and Monitoring, DoF said that food safety as well as organic fish farming should be taken into consideration. Scientists from BFRI / University and DFO of Khulna / Satkhira from Department of Fisheries gave power point presentation on recent developed technologies, constraints and scope of aquaculture in southern region.    

Workshop participants expressed their feelings that this type of workshop is very much effective for improving coordination among different stakeholders for sustainable development of fisheries sector.     

Farmer’s representatives Koushik and Moksed Morol said that more training and demonstration types of activities require to learn improved technologies by the farmers. Farmer Shikha said that cage aquaculture is a good IGA for women.

Finally workshop became ended with vote of thanks by Mr. Bilash Mittra. The workshop was facilitated by Mr Mizanur Rahman and Mr Shafiqul Islam, ADO, Khulna Hub.
